Direct Support Professional

About This Role

This role involves providing direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities within a community-based program. The Direct Support Professional will deliver support based on individual service plans, assist with daily activities, and help individuals live full and independent lives.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support or assistance in accordance with individual service or program plans
• Assist with socialization and behavioral development, personal care, housekeeping, and recreational activities
• Transport individuals, assist with community orientation, shopping, financial management, and other activities of daily living
• Accurately document progress and activity, review records and logs, and maintain confidentiality
• Make cost-effective and appropriate purchases within individuals' budgets and according to their preferences
• Maintain healthy and professional relationships with individuals, friends, families, guardians, and case managers
• Report any instance of alleged abuse or neglect according to internal and external standards
• Administer or support self-administration of medication if assigned, and document delivery of medications and treatments
• Monitor individuals' health, document health concerns, and communicate with nurses or supervisors as appropriate
• Prepare or support individuals to prepare food in accordance with planned menus and individual choice
• Perform daily and seasonal housekeeping, maintain a neat, clean, and safe environment

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• Working knowledge of computers
• Valid driver’s license in good standing
• Car registration and vehicle insurance if providing transportation for individuals

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Six months of experience in human services preferred.
