About This Role

The Direct Support Professional - Community Connections provides hands-on guidance and mentorship to individuals with disabilities, focusing on community integration and developing independence. This role supports clients in achieving employment, household, and personal goals through various community activities and skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and mentor clients to develop independence in their community
  • Educate clients on skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, grocery shopping, and cleaning
  • Explore community businesses and social activities with clients while supporting their goals
  • Work with a team to plan for and advocate for clients
  • Provide training and support in daily life skills and money management
  • Initiate opportunities for community inclusion and access
  • Implement outcomes and strategies of individual personal plans
  • Actively participate in team meetings

Requirements

  • Minimum eighteen years of age
  • Valid chauffeur’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days) with good driving record
  • Dependable automobile and current Liability auto insurance
  • Passion for working with individuals with disabilities and increasing their independence
  • Ability to work independently in a community setting
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours
  • Ability to work with and respect persons with disabilities and advocate for their rights

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities
