This role is for a Critical Environment Electrical Engineer within the Microsoft US Airgap Cloud (AGC) organization, focusing on delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for dedicated online services supporting the U.S. Government. The engineer will ensure the safety, security, and optimization of critical electrical systems in datacenters.
Responsibilities
- Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of data center activities
- Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems
- Understand the design and functionality of your datacenter
- Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenters operations and electrical infrastructure
- Act as the technical authority for on-site operations related to a large-scale mission critical electrical system, design, and functionality
- Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures, maintaining highly redundant electrical designs
- Managing the electrical infrastructures throughout datacenter campus ranging from a single, large-capacity facility to several smaller ones
- Ability to create operating procedures (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs) for critical environment planned and unplanned work activities
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
- Active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph
- U.S. Citizenship verification
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years technical engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 1+ year with a Master's degree. Preferred: 5+ years of work-related experience in mission-critical facilities electrical infrastructure operations.
Nice to Have
- 5+ years of work-related experience in mission-critical facilities electrical infrastructure operations
- Fundamental understanding of the National Electrical Code
- Valid license to drive standard street-legal automatic transmission vehicles
- Understanding of critical datacenter CE equipment
- Established understanding of electrical theory and practical application (Paralleling switchgear, redundant UPS systems, DC battery strings, multi-source electrical utility switchgear, standby diesel generators, etc.)
- 1+ years experience with the operation and maintenance of building electrical systems (Power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, security, life safety, and controls systems)
- 1+ years experience maintenance & operation of critical environment backup electrical equipment (Diesel generators, radiator, ventilation systems, fuel storage, distribution, & protection systems, etc.)
- 1+ years experience with construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (Ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.)
- 1+ years experience with building management systems and automation, controls & frameworks
