About This Role

Provide armed security to courthouses under the USMS contract, performing duties such as entrance control, roving patrols, stationary post assignments, and escorting judges and court personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entrance control by enforcing the District's entry and identification system, including operating security screening equipment and checking items for prohibited articles.
  • Perform roving patrol of court facilities and grounds in accordance with applicable post orders.
  • Perform stationary post assignments, including monitoring closed-circuit television, duress alarm systems, and other security equipment in various court areas.
  • Provide armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals when directed.
  • Direct traffic and control lights for garage parking and pedestrian control on court facility properties.
  • Enforce federal law while on duty, detaining individuals attempting unauthorized access or committing acts imperiling safety and security.
  • Prepare reports and records regarding contract performance issues, accidents, fire, bomb threats, unusual incidents, or unlawful acts.
  • Secure unattended courtrooms, inspect courtrooms prior to proceedings, and test security devices.
  • Preserve order in the courtroom, enforcing federal law, judicial orders, and local court rules regarding prohibited items.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years verifiable experience as a certified law enforcement officer or military equivalent within the last 7 years
  • Experience must have included general arrest authority
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to understand, explain, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, directives, and procedures
  • Valid driver's license from state of residency and safe driving record for the past five years
  • Clearance from the Department of Justice
  • Completed or graduated from certified Federal, state, county, local or military law enforcement training academy with certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least three (3) calendar years of verifiable experience as a certified law enforcement officer or military equivalency (Master-at-Arms, CGPD, Security Forces Specialist, etc.), all within the last seven (7) years, with general arrest authority.
