About This Role

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct therapy procedures and interventions under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. This role includes assessing patient performance, making equipment recommendations, and educating patients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient performance commensurate with their training and qualifications
  • Recommend equipment or alteration to architectural barriers to the therapist of record
  • Act as clinical instructor and/or assist with orientation of new employees or volunteers
  • Intervene with self-care, home management, and therapeutic activities
  • Perform and interpret manual muscle and range of motion tests
  • Provide positioning/seating, transfers, fine motor and gross motor skill, coordination; neuromuscular facilitation; motor control
  • Design, fabricate or apply selected orthotics or prosthetic devices; pressure garment fitting; provide guidance in the selection and use of adaptive equipment
  • Educate persons served and other stakeholders
  • Communicate and document treatment and appropriate charges for treatment per policy and procedure
  • Report to the therapist delegating and the assigned Manager or Director

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited school for Occupational Therapy Assistants
  • OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistant) OR Temporary OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistant)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire
  • Current Oklahoma State Drivers License (for Jim Thorpe Therapy Resource Pool)
  • Acceptable driving record for insurance carrier (for Jim Thorpe Therapy Resource Pool)

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited school for Occupational Therapy Assistants
  • Previous experience preferred; 2 years of experience and aquatic experience for Aquatics Department Only
