The Construction Safety Manager will lead safety initiatives for large-scale data center projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies while fostering a strong safety culture and minimizing risks to personnel. This role is responsible for developing and implementing safety programs, conducting site audits, and managing incident response.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Safety Policies compliant with OSHA, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Plan and lead safety training for employees, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Investigate and document incidents, near-misses, and safety violations; determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable safety laws and ensure full project compliance.
- Promote open communication and hazard reporting to reinforce a safety-first culture.
- Evaluate project-specific risks and collaborate with construction teams to implement mitigation strategies.
- Oversee crane setup, operation, movement, review lift plans, and load calculations.
- Establish safety metrics, track performance, and report findings to senior leadership.
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and enforce proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures on all jobsites.
Requirements
- BCSP designation/certification (e.g., STS-C, CHST, CSP, etc.) or an EHS-related degree
- Data center construction experience
- Strong understanding of OSHA, NFPA, and industry safety standards
- Proven leadership, communication, and training capabilities
- Excellent incident investigation and report-writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage jobsite incidents
- OSHA 1926 Subpart CC (Cranes & Derricks in Construction)
- Critical lift coordination experience
- Knowledge of load charts, wind restrictions, and operator certifications
- Experience with rigging plans and signal person requirements
- Strong analytical skills and proactive risk mitigation mindset
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- 5+ years of safety management experience in data center construction, OR 3+ years of safety management experience in data center construction plus hands-on crane safety, rigging operations, and lift planning experience
