About This Role

This internship program provides college students with hands-on experience in heavy civil construction, asphalt operations, and plant maintenance. Interns will develop project management skills and apply academic knowledge in a professional setting within the Texas Materials team.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in hands-on learning experiences with asphalt paving and heavy civil construction crews.
  • Learn hotmix plant operations.
  • Gain experience in hotmix QC lab settings for quality control and assurance.
  • Follow company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
  • Participate in daily safety discussions and toolbox meetings.
  • Assist with estimating, pricing, and bidding work.
  • Support contract administration, including subcontract and material contract management.
  • Track quantities, costs, and progress curves.
  • Manage equipment and materials.
  • Conduct material takeoffs and material receipt inspections.
  • Develop schedules and work plans, coordinating between plant and construction activities.

Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.
  • Must be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Must be at least age 18 years of age.
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Be able to effectively carry out assigned duties in varying work environments and in different terrain (including various weather conditions)
  • Flexible with work locations – must be able to travel/relocate for the work term
  • Personal transportation required

Qualifications

  • Working towards a construction management, engineering, geology, business or related degree.
