The Data Center Commissioning Manager leads the end-to-end commissioning process for mission-critical data centers, guaranteeing that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and life-safety systems meet design, safety, and performance standards. This role involves close collaboration with various teams to deliver a fully validated facility ready for client handover.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full, multi-level commissioning process
- Develop and manage commissioning plans, scripts, and schedules
- Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, and Uptime Institute best practices
- Coordinate daily with construction, engineering, vendors, and operations teams
- Track progress, manage risks, and maintain commissioning milestones
- Provide regular stakeholder reporting on testing, issues, and completion status
- Oversee functional testing of critical systems including UPS, generators, switchgear, HVAC/cooling, BAS/EPMS, and fire protection
- Verify system integration, redundancy, failover, alarms, and control logic
- Manage all commissioning documentation (FAT/SAT, installation checks, IST)
- Track and close deficiencies and punch-list items
- Deliver final reports and turnover packages
- Enforce safety during testing and energization
- Ensure compliance with codes, manufacturer requirements, and Client standards
Requirements
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- 7+ years commissioning in mission-critical or industrial environments
- Experience leading large data center or hyperscale projects
- Strong MEP, controls, SCADA/BMS/EPMS expertise
- Understanding of N, N+1, 2N, concurrent maintainability, and fault tolerance
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in fast-paced environments
