About This Role

As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, you will provide vital, life-saving diagnostics to American Indian communities by performing and evaluating a full range of laboratory tests, ensuring quality assurance, and maintaining laboratory operations. This role contributes to patient diagnosis and treatment within the Indian Health Service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and evaluate a full range of clinical analyses (chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, molecular diagnostics) using manual and automated techniques.
  • Monitor and document quality control systems to ensure accuracy, precision, and reliability of test results.
  • Select established methodologies for requested analyses, implement basic corrective actions, and calibrate/maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Offer technical assistance and training to laboratory personnel, recognizing abnormal or unusual test results.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work on a rotational basis including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Compliance with IHS Employee Immunization Policy for vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Successful completion of a federal background investigation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree with specific science and mathematics courses, AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program OR a 12-month college/hospital-based medical technology program OR equivalent education and 5 years of full-time clinical laboratory experience.
  • 5 years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, if qualifying with specified education.

Certifications

Medical Technologist (generalist) certification/licensure by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body (Required)
