Reviews, quantifies, and maintains health records to ensure accuracy and compliance, handling inquiries and acting as a custodian for legal requests while collaborating to enhance community health.
Responsibilities
- Review health records quantitatively for compliance and report errors/omissions
- Monitor and maintain a system for overdue charts and notify delinquent physicians
- Assemble records for permanent filing
- Receive, evaluate, and respond to correspondence, telephone requests, and in-person inquiries regarding health record release
- Attend court with health records under subpoena
- Assess information in health records and assign codes (ICD-10CA, CCI) and maintain abstracting database
- Retrieve patient charts from previous admissions and direct to appropriate floor/unit on admission
- Answer telephone, take messages, screen and reroute calls
- Assume responsibility for the microfilming process
- File charts in the main department and alternate storage areas
- Participate in departmental QA Programs
Requirements
- Active member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association or certification obtained within six months of start date
- Proof of current CPE credits or recent graduate (in the last 12 months) with diploma
- Knowledge and use of Folio
- Knowledge of Medical Staff Rules & Regulations, Public Hospitals Act, Personal Health Information Privacy Act and other pertinent legislation
