City Engineer

About This Role

The City Engineer will lead the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects, manage the Engineering Department, and advise City leadership on technical matters. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and supports the city's infrastructure programs while reviewing private development proposals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of public infrastructure
• Lead in-house and consultant-designed capital projects
• Manage the Engineering Department
• Ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations
• Support pavement and infrastructure management programs
• Review private development proposals
• Coordinate with Public Works and partner agencies
• Serve as a technical advisor to City leadership, boards, and commissions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
• 5+ years of progressive experience
• Supervisory experience
• Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Minnesota
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong communication skills
• Strong project management skills
