This role involves providing routine patient care and contributing to the overall patient plan of care in a Neurology Progressive Care Unit. The assistant will collect patient data, document findings, and support the nursing unit's efficient operation at Banner Boswell Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance in activities of daily living to promote patient health, including basic hygiene and nutritional intake
- Collect patient specimens and data such as vital signs and input/output, and document findings in medical records
- Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status to a licensed professional
- Perform delegated procedures and use equipment, including blood draws, foley catheter removals, EKGs, and EKG monitoring
- Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support communication and information flow within the department
- Maintain complete patient records, ensuring all forms are filed and accessible
- Maintain adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies, and reconcile orders upon delivery
- Assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients, to critical care units
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Current BLS certification
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice
- Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience or prior customer service
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective human relations and communication skills
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
- Minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity (depending on department assignment)
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (for specific behavioral health/home care roles)
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience. Recent healthcare experience preferred.
