About This Role

Perform carpentry and construction projects for the Michigan Senate, requiring considerable knowledge of hand and power tools and the ability to work independently on varied assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and repair furniture, such as tables, desks, credenzas, cabinets, and bookcases
  • Construct and repair historic furniture
  • Fabricate and install decorative wood carvings, moldings, doors and frames, trim and other items
  • Engineer, design and construct jigs and templates for custom cutting, routering and moldings for furniture and cabinet construction
  • Install and fix locksets and door closers
  • Study blueprints, sketches and prepare work orders to determine materials and equipment required for assigned work
  • Operate, maintain, and make routine repairs of hand and power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade
  • Move furniture, office equipment and other objects as needed

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years’ experience in the carpentry trade
  • Considerable knowledge of the skillful use of hand and power tools

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years’ experience in the carpentry trade

  • Ability to work from heights, climb, crawl, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time
