Bus Driver

About This Role

Safely transport students over scheduled routes to and from school sites in a school bus, ensuring the safety of all passengers, including special education students. Maintain order and discipline while operating the assigned vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Drive a school bus safely in accordance with time schedules, transporting students to and from homes, school sites, and field trips
• Maintain order and proper discipline of passengers, resolving disputes and reporting severe disciplinary cases
• Conduct established safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily
• Oversee the loading and unloading of students, releasing students to authorized individuals, and assuring that safety belts are fastened in passenger vans
• Maintain a variety of records and reports including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules
• Notify appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route
• Ensure proper credentials (CDL, Medical Card, & Region One) are updated according to DOT and IDEA policy
• Communicate openly with campus managers they drive for
• Adapt to changing circumstances while performing various tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Work on evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when necessary

Requirements

• GED or High School Diploma
• Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles; or an equivalent combination of experience and training
• Ability to manage student behavior
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements
• Completed bus driver safety training course
• Must be over 21 years old
• Pass alcohol and drug tests
• DOT Physical Examination

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma
• Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles; or an equivalent combination of experience and training
