Backend Software Engineer

About This Role

Join our team as a highly skilled and innovative Software Engineer to design and implement Agentic AI systems for enhancing customer support and compliance processes at Coinbase. In this role, you will architect distributed systems, develop foundational APIs for large language models (LLMs), and establish measurement techniques for AI agents.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Agentic AI systems to enhance customer support and compliance workflows
• Develop orchestration, guardrails, and measurement techniques to ensure AI relevance, grounding, and customer satisfaction
• Architect and develop scalable, distributed systems that support AI functionalities
• Provide technical guidance and structure to teams, working closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, ensuring high-quality outputs
• Mentor and train team members on best practices in system design, coding standards, and AI integration
• Design and implement foundational APIs for use by large language models and other AI components
• Write well-tested, high-quality code that meets customer needs and adheres to security standards

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering
• Strong proficiency in designing distributed systems and APIs
• Experience with large language models (LLMs) and deploying AI applications to production

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and developing impactful solutions to complex problems

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of grounding, measuring, and reducing hallucinations in LLMs
• Familiarity with customer support, compliance, or financial crimes domains
