About This Role

This position plans, leads, and directs designated medical coding teams across multiple locations within Banner Health. It involves managing special projects, facilitating meetings between coding operations and physician teams, and driving performance improvements to achieve business goals related to unbilled accounts receivable, compliance, data integrity, and reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Select, train, coach, motivate, conduct performance evaluations, and direct workflow for coding staff
  • Participate in department budget development and ensure budgetary goals are met
  • Drive organization performance improvements by refining and monitoring the coding scorecard (unbilled A/R, Medicare second reviews, RAC denials, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with other leaders to establish coding quality, productivity, and best practices
  • Participate in developing standard coding policies/procedures/guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines
  • Monitor data integrity on a regular basis to ensure abstracted data elements meet requirements, provide staff training and education
  • Keep abreast of new medical technologies, procedures, and pending regulatory changes, proactively analyzing potential impact to the organization
  • Oversee coding for a designated coding team and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, coding accuracy, data integrity, and appropriate reimbursement

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare
  • Strong knowledge and background in coding demonstrated through progressive coding leadership experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work effectively with all common office software and coding software applications
  • Thorough knowledge of computer applications and their applicability to coding

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health care administration or related field
  • 3+ years of progressive coding leadership experience preferably within a major health care organization or health system setting
