Lead and direct medical coding teams across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, data integrity, and achieving financial and revenue cycle goals for a major healthcare organization.
Responsibilities
- Select, train, coach, motivate, conduct performance evaluations, and direct the workflow for coding staff
- Develop goals and performance expectations for staff in targeted areas like unbilled accounts receivable, quality, and timeliness
- Participate in the development and ensure adherence to the department budget
- Drive organization performance improvements by refining and monitoring the coding scorecard
- Collaborate with other leaders to establish coding quality, productivity, and best practices
- Participate in developing standard coding policies/procedures/guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines
- Monitor data integrity on a regular basis, provide staff training and education, and communicate with associated departments
- Keep abreast of new medical technologies, procedures, and pending regulatory changes, analyzing potential impact to the organization
- Oversee coding for a designated team, ensuring compliance and accurate reimbursement
- Facilitate meetings between coding operations and physician teams
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare
- Bachelor's degree in business, health care administration or related field
- RHIA, RHIT, or CCS in active status with AHIMA or AAPC (for acute care)
- 3+ years of progressive coding leadership experience
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to work effectively with common office software and coding software applications
- Thorough knowledge of computer applications and their applicability to coding
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration or related field
- 3+ years of progressive coding leadership experience, preferably within a major health care organization or health system setting
Nice to Have
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P)
- Additional related education and/or experience
