This position is responsible for planning, leading, and directing medical coding teams across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, data integrity, and achieving business unit goals in unbilled accounts receivable and reimbursement.
Responsibilities
- Select, train, coach, motivate, and direct the workflow for coding staff, setting performance goals for unbilled accounts receivable, quality, and timeliness.
- Participate in department budget development and ensure budgetary goals are met annually.
- Drive organizational performance improvements by monitoring and refining the coding scorecard, participating in process and program enhancements.
- Collaborate with other leaders to establish and monitor coding quality, productivity, and best practices against industry trends.
- Participate in developing standard coding policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Monitor data integrity, perform staff training and education, and communicate with associated departments for semi-annual data submission.
- Stay informed about new medical technologies, procedures, and regulatory changes, analyzing their potential impact on the organization.
- Oversee coding for a designated team, ensuring regulatory compliance, coding accuracy, data integrity, and appropriate reimbursement from third-party payors.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare
- Strong knowledge and background in coding
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to work effectively with all common office software and coding software applications
- Thorough knowledge of computer applications and their applicability to coding
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration or related field.
- 3+ years of progressive coding leadership experience, preferably within a major health care organization or health system setting.
