Assistant Vice President - Data Analytics

About This Role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving Symetra's transformation into a data-driven enterprise. The role involves shaping strategy, leading high-impact analytics initiatives, and guiding teams to build insights and capabilities that power business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Symetra’s data and analytics strategy in collaboration with IT leaders and business partners
• Build strong partnerships across sales, marketing, customer experience, underwriting, claims, actuarial, innovation, and other teams
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, generate revenue, and enhance customer experience through analytics
• Establish clear key performance indicators, return on investment metrics, and data literacy initiatives across the organization
• Drive innovation by leading hands-on and coaching efforts in descriptive analytics, predictive modeling, and machine learning
• Supervise the creation and maintenance of a stable, trusted, and scalable enterprise data environment
• Promote high quality reporting and BI solutions that enable self-service analytics
• Lead and mentor technical teams, including direct and matrixed reports
• Model a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and innovation

Requirements

• 10+ years of proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams
• Technical expertise with Python, DBT, and Snowflake
• Proficiency with modern data mining, analytics, and visualization tools
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills
• Strategic problem-solver with a track record of motivating change and building consensus
• Skilled relationship-builder who can influence at all levels of the organization
• Continuous learner who stays current on industry trends and emerging technologies
• High School Diploma

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
• 10+ years of proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field; 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams
