Assistant Teacher

About This Role

Serve as a classroom assistant teacher, supporting a lead teacher in providing early childhood education for children aged 18 months through Transitional Kindergarten within a Christian environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom
• Follow directions provided by the lead teacher in the classroom
• Work collaboratively with co-workers as a team player
• Maintain a high standard of care for children at all times
• Think quickly and respond well under pressure when working with children
• Assess and properly respond to situations that arise with children
• Demonstrate competency, good judgement, and self-control with children and in assigned responsibilities
• Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance and patience
• Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families and their cultures
• Ensure no child is abused, neglected, or exploited while in the care of the school

Requirements

• Committed Christian comfortable working in a church/preschool environment
• Like-minded regarding Compass Christian Church beliefs
• High school diploma or equivalent education
• Ability to listen and follow directions provided by the lead teacher
• Organized and ability to multitask
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to climb into an indoor play structure
• Ability to sit on the floor to play with children
• Ability to think on their feet and work well under pressure
• Ability to assess and properly respond to situations
• Positive attitude and approach to problem solving
• Demonstrate competency, good judgement, and self-control with children
• Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance and patience
• Willingness to grow and learn as a teacher
• Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families and their cultures
• Ensure no child is abused, neglected, or exploited

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education required
