Sam Houston State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History specializing in United States history to begin in Fall 2026. This role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, with a preference for candidates who can contribute to the War and Violence track and public history initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Teach one or both halves of the United States history survey course
- Teach upper-division and graduate courses in areas of specialization
- Contribute to the War and Violence track of the department's MA program
- Support the department's public history initiatives
- Teach three courses per semester
- Engage undergraduate and graduate students
Requirements
- Ph.D. in History prior to appointment
- Ability to teach United States history survey courses
- Strong commitment to engaging undergraduate and graduate students
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in History
Nice to Have
- Ability to contribute to the War and Violence track of the MA program
- Experience in public history
- Experience delivering successful online graduate courses in history
