This position manages the healthcare of select patient populations within an outpatient setting, collaborating with a physician to diagnose, intervene, and evaluate patient health, specifically focusing on diabetes management and education.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations and treat common episodic and chronic health care problems
- Counsel patients and families on health management
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans
- Assist with medical research projects, including data collection and patient follow-up
- Manage health care for select patient populations through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician
- Coordinate care to promote health and wellness, including patient education, service coordination, and referrals
- Develop and execute treatment plans for acute problems, such as illnesses and minor injuries, following predetermined protocols
- Instruct and counsel patients, involving them in informed decision-making regarding their health
- Refer patients needing diabetes education, including pump and sensor training, to the USF Diabetes Center
- Participate in professional development and lifelong learning activities to maintain compliance with policies and accreditation requirements
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant academic degree program
- Certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64
