Animal Shelter Specialist

About This Role

This role involves performing manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the care of animals and the maintenance of an animal shelter. The specialist supports the County's animal shelter operations by ensuring animal welfare and facility cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Provide general care to animals including bathing, grooming, and treating for fleas/ticks
• Observe animals for signs of illness or injury and report changes to appropriate staff
• Provide fresh food daily according to feeding schedules and dietary needs
• Transport live animals as needed
• Assist veterinarian staff with medical care by securing and controlling animals during examinations
• Clean and disinfect all animal areas and related equipment
• Make minor repairs to equipment and facility and report problems
• Assist with animal adoptions and supervise potential adoptions introductions
• Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals including the public
• Coordinate work activities with other team members to ensure smooth operation
• Operate vehicles and various equipment such as washer, dryer, computer, and specialized tools

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Georgia driver's license

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, kennel or similar environment is preferred
