The Animal Caretaker III is responsible for performing a variety of animal care duties, ensuring the health and well-being of the animals, and maintaining facility bio-security and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Take an active role in safety and bio-security programs, including following procedures and training.
- Recognize and report broken or faulty equipment to supervisors.
- Perform all required duties in a timely manner as outlined in SOPs.
- Understand and demonstrate correct handling techniques for animals of all ages.
- Understand and demonstrate safe and efficient power washing techniques.
- Understand and demonstrate correct methods of medication handling, storage, euthanasia, and dead animal disposal.
- Understand and demonstrate correct methods of treating and vaccinating animals of all ages.
- Understand and demonstrate all aspects of processing piglets, including castration.
- Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation skills.
Requirements
- Ability to lift in excess of 50lbs, move up to 100 yards daily.
- Ability to lift 15 lbs repeatedly daily for at least 1 hour.
- Ability to push and/or pull a minimum of 500 lbs in a cart with wheels.
- Ability to squat, grip small objects, and twist at least 45 degrees.
- Capability for repeated actions.
- Responsiveness to visible signs of animal discomfort and verbal alarms.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to move, load, and unload animals 600 plus pounds.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods on different surfaces.
- Ability to climb in and out of crates, over obstacles, and different types of ladders.
- Ability to maintain balance on all surfaces.
- Ability to retain and perform written and spoken instructions.
- Must not own or live near any swine, or live with anyone who has contact with swine.
