About This Role

This role involves working across the full data lifecycle, transforming raw data into meaningful data models and dashboards. The Analytics Engineer I will support insights into driver safety, training effectiveness, and fleet performance through a hybrid analytics and data engineering approach.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, explore, clean, and structure raw data for analysis and reporting
  • Build and maintain data transformation models (e.g., dbt) that support analytics and dashboards
  • Create and optimize data models that power BI dashboards and internal reporting
  • Support the ingestion and analysis of telematics and fleet-related data
  • Work closely with analysts, product, and engineering teams to translate business questions into data solutions
  • Identify, flag, and help resolve data quality issues; assist in establishing data quality standards and documentation
  • Create and maintain documentation for data models, definitions, assumptions, and transformations
  • Support ad-hoc analytics requests from internal stakeholders and deliver accurate, timely insights
  • Write and maintain clean, performant SQL and Python code that aligns with team standards
  • Develop a strong understanding of fleet operations, driver safety concepts, and Smith System’s products and customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or related)
  • Strong foundational SQL skills, including writing complex queries and understanding relational data models
  • Python experience for data manipulation, analysis, or automation
  • Ability to analyze data, ask thoughtful questions, and understand the “why” behind trends
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work collaboratively

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Entry-level position; relevant internships, coursework, bootcamps, or early-career experience are welcome

Nice to Have

  • Experience with or strong interest in analytics engineering tools
  • Familiarity with data visualization or BI tools (Looker or Omni preferred)
