About This Role

This role assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs for residents. The Activities Assistant ensures programs align with patient assessments and care plans, fostering a supportive and engaging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and gather information by interviewing residents, family members, and others to develop individualized recreation programs.
  • Update resident recreation programs as needed to accommodate individual needs and preferences.
  • Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
  • Schedule recreational activities across various times and locations, appealing to all age groups and including special events.
  • Post monthly activities calendar.
  • Provide activities to residents confined to their rooms that reflect life-long interests.
  • Provide structured activities for cognitively impaired residents, adapting as necessary for participation.
  • Develop and implement effective procedures to ensure residents are informed about activities, encouraged to participate, and transportation is provided.
  • Record progress notes in the clinical record, including subjective findings, objective symptoms, observations, interventions, and resident responses.
  • Perform quality assessment and assurance functions, including regulatory compliance rounds, activity observations, and record reviews.
  • Communicate with the Nursing Home Administrator regarding resident care, personnel, and budget issues.
  • Develop staffing plans and provide financial information for department budget development.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years college education with courses in recreation, education, social work, other behavioral sciences or clinical services
  • Two years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years
  • One year full-time employment in a patient/resident activities program in a health care setting
