About This Role

Perform difficult and responsible clerical accounting and financial work for Placer County, supporting functions like accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, treasury, and tax billing and collections. This role involves financial recordkeeping, report reconciliation, processing financial documents, and responding to inquiries from County staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical accounting, financial, or bookkeeping work to maintain journals, subsidiary ledgers, payroll, treasury, tax billing and collections, general ledgers, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
  • Prepare periodic statements and analyses of statistical and financial records
  • Process time records and prepare payroll and related records
  • Classify and post expenditures, revenues, or authorizations to appropriate budgetary or ledger accounts and reconcile to financial reports
  • Maintain ledger accounts, balance accounts, review for irregularities, and assist with collections of delinquent accounts
  • Receive and process a variety of payments at the front counter, research account status, and respond to customer questions
  • Review and process department payroll, ensuring accuracy, researching and correcting errors, and processing leave requests
  • Process accounts payable by reviewing and coding invoices to contracts, verifying materials received, and monitoring funds for payment
  • Track and monitor contracts and insurance; create and/or make changes to supplier records, contract encumbrances, and amendments
  • Prepare, review, and approve cash, credit card, and check receipts; perform account adjustments; reconcile and process refunds and overpayments
  • Research, verify, and process warrant reissues
  • Collect and track data, prepare invoices, billings, and/or claims, balance accounts, and maintain customer/client accounts
  • Prepare complex financial or statistical reports and summaries independently, and recommend improvements in financial recordkeeping procedures and systems
  • Assist in preparing budget estimates, trial balances, recapitulations, balance sheets, and complex statistical and financial reports

Requirements

  • Two years of responsible experience in keeping and reviewing financial records
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
  • Two years of responsible experience in keeping and reviewing financial records.

Nice to Have

  • Additional specialized training in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license (as required by position)
