About This Role

This role involves empowering children and young people through meaningful relationships, creativity, nature, and wellbeing for The Children’s Foundation. The Youth Worker will deliver youth-led group sessions and one-to-one support while also developing a Peer Mentor pathway within the mental health support service.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver youth-led group sessions and one-to-one support across existing programs including outdoor learning, physical activity, and wellbeing projects
  • Build trusted, positive relationships with children and young people, responding flexibly to their needs and interests
  • Support young people working towards personal development outcomes and qualifications such as Level 1 Practical Horticulture
  • Design and develop a Peer Mentor pathway within the one-to-one mental health support service
  • Support previous service users and other young people to progress into peer mentor roles
  • Train and support peer mentors to develop skills including communication, boundaries, confidence, self-reflection, and emotional wellbeing
  • Facilitate and oversee appropriate peer mentor involvement in one-to-one support, ensuring work is supervised, ethical, and aligned with individual support plans
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive environment and take responsibility for safeguarding in line with organisational policies and procedures
  • Work closely with families, schools, and partner professionals to support referrals, engagement, and sustained participation
  • Record outcomes, gather feedback, and contribute to monitoring and evaluation to demonstrate impact and support future service development

Requirements

  • Recent experience working with children or young people
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
  • Confidence planning, delivering, and risk-assessing youth sessions
  • IT-literate and comfortable with basic recording and monitoring systems
  • A genuine interest in outdoor learning, physical activity, and wellbeing
  • Willingness to work regular evenings and occasional weekends
  • Access to own transport for regional travel

Qualifications

  • Recent experience working with children or young people.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting children or young people in a mental health, emotional wellbeing, or early-intervention setting
  • Experience supporting or supervising peer mentors, volunteers, or young people in leadership roles
  • Knowledge of common emotional wellbeing needs such as anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation difficulties, and low self-esteem
  • A Level 3 qualification in Youth Work, or willingness to work towards this
