About This Role

This temporary position provides a 12-month on-the-job training program for youths, offering practical experience in various entry-level roles such as crafts, institutional support, or maintenance within County departments. The program aims to prepare participants for entry-level jobs or continued educational pursuits in their trained fields.

Responsibilities

  • Receive on-the-job training in entry-level work
  • Assist more experienced workers by furnishing and using basic hand tools, materials, and supplies
  • Clean work areas and machinery
  • Operate simple machines and equipment
  • Prepare basic reports or keep maintenance records
  • Assist in maintaining physical premises and/or grounds of County facilities
  • Assist in transporting patients, supplies, laboratory specimens, exhibit materials, or records
  • Assist in transporting and serving meals
  • Issue supplies, check property, and maintain order in locker/dressing rooms at County public swimming pools
  • Perform basic pool maintenance and ensure first aid equipment is ready for use
  • Monitor assigned pool areas for swimmers in trouble and for violations of pool and safety regulations
  • Assist journey-level trade positions in performing installation work or repairs (e.g., replacing windows, making roof repairs)
  • Assist higher-level food service workers or supervisors in performing routine kitchen duties

Requirements

  • Completion of 120 hours of career exposure with the County of Los Angeles Department of Human Resources' Countywide Youth Bridges Program OR completion of 300 hours of the County of Los Angeles Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services' Creating Opportunities and Real Experiences (CORE) internship career exposure program
  • Age 24 or younger at time of appointment

Qualifications

  • On-the-job training program for entry-level positions

Nice to Have

  • High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate
