The Working Foreman and Water Distribution position involves supervising and actively participating in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the Town's water distribution system, ensuring operations adhere to municipal, state, and federal policies. This role requires overseeing crews, operating equipment, and responding to emergency calls.
Responsibilities
- Plan, assign, schedule, supervise, and review water distribution work, including training new or reassigned workers.
- Supervise and perform water main construction, maintenance, and repair projects, involving excavation, grading, pipe laying, and joint connections.
- Direct and inspect the operation of various Town-owned and hired heavy and specialized construction equipment.
- Supervise and perform snow removal operations, including sanding and plowing streets and parks, directing both hired vendor and Town equipment.
- Recommend and purchase equipment, parts, tools, materials, and supplies necessary for supervised projects.
- Accurately interpret tie card information, including structure locations, measurements, and reference points.
- Interpret water system GIS layers, including water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, and pressure zones.
- Act as a primary or secondary distribution operator for the Town’s Public Water System.
- Carry an emergency phone on a rotating schedule, respond to off-hours emergency calls, and manage necessary repairs.
- Enter detailed records into a computer database and manage/interpret data per water system regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years' experience in water distribution or related field
- Class D motor vehicle operator's license
- Level D2 drinking water supply facility license
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Five years’ experience in water distribution or a related field, or equivalent combination of knowledge and expertise.
Nice to Have
- Class B Commercial Driver’s license with air brakes and tank endorsement
- MA HE 2A, 1C and 4G hoisting license
- Ability to obtain and sustain a level D3 license within 24 months of hire
