Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator Lead and Non-Lead

About This Role

Perform watercraft inspections and decontaminations to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species at Vallecito Reservoir. This role involves public outreach, adherence to state regulations, and potentially leading a team of inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols
• Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir for invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels
• Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species topics by providing printed material to visitors
• Provide on-the-job training to inspection staff (Lead Inspector)
• Create schedules and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours (Lead Inspector)
• Collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll purposes (Lead Inspector)
• Work with supervisor to resolve challenges with staff and customers (Lead Inspector)
• Recommend hiring/firing of employees to area lead (Lead Inspector)
• Ensure inspection station staff are following standardized protocols and performing accurate data entry (Lead Inspector)
• Maintain inventory of all required supplies (Lead Inspector)
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit (Lead Inspector)

• Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning, and late evenings
• Good communication skills (written and verbal)
• Reliable and timely
• Ability to self-motivate and work independently

• Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment
