Perform watercraft inspections and decontaminations to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species at Vallecito Reservoir. This role involves public outreach, adherence to state regulations, and potentially leading a team of inspectors.
Responsibilities
- Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols
- Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir for invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels
- Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species topics by providing printed material to visitors
- Provide on-the-job training to inspection staff (Lead Inspector)
- Create schedules and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours (Lead Inspector)
- Collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll purposes (Lead Inspector)
- Work with supervisor to resolve challenges with staff and customers (Lead Inspector)
- Recommend hiring/firing of employees to area lead (Lead Inspector)
- Ensure inspection station staff are following standardized protocols and performing accurate data entry (Lead Inspector)
- Maintain inventory of all required supplies (Lead Inspector)
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit (Lead Inspector)
Requirements
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning, and late evenings
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Reliable and timely
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
Nice to Have
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment
- Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public
