About This Role

The Veterinary Technician I will provide technical assistance to veterinary medical and research staff in animal health care, including medicine, surgery, and radiology for laboratory animals. This role supports the organization and coordination of veterinary technical tasks to ensure efficient operations and high standards of care within the Animal Resources Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the ARC veterinary staff to provide research and health care support for a wide variety of species, routinely working in the animal facility without direct supervision.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative animal monitoring.
  • Maintain animal health and study related records as required by the IACUC and ARC policy.
  • Perform routine diagnostic testing utilizing common laboratory equipment, such as internal and external parasite examinations, PCV and total protein, and urinalysis.
  • Work comfortably in a microbiological barrier facility as well as ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 containment areas.
  • Obtain routine blood collections from research animals and perform antigen injections and sample collections for antibody production.
  • Maintain appropriate medical records and assist in maintaining surveillance of investigator research protocols.
  • Participate in University mandated training such as MRI, Radiation Safety and Blood Borne Pathogens.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 years working with animals in a clinical or research setting

  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent
  • 2 years working with animals in a clinical or research setting
