Veterinary Tech Assistant

About This Role

The Veterinary Tech Assistant provides essential support to veterinarians and technicians in a hospital setting, ensuring compassionate patient care and efficient clinic operations. This role involves assisting with patient handling, medical procedures, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and owners, escort them to exam rooms, and take vital signs
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by LVTs
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, anesthetic machines)
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain controlled drug logs
• Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report unusual conditions
• Communicate positively with clients and educate them on insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
• Maintain hospital cleanliness, equipment, kennels, and facilities
• Bathe and care for overnight patients, ensuring cleanliness before release
• Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Promote hospital products and services
• Respond respectfully and urgently to directions from DVMs or LVTs

Requirements

• 2+ years' experience in a veterinary environment successfully performing all duties of this position

Qualifications

• Two or more years' experience in a veterinary environment, successfully performing all of the duties of this position

Nice to Have

• 3+ years' experience in a veterinary environment successfully performing all duties of this position
