Teach Upper School Journalism to highly motivated students and advise Menlo's award-winning student newspaper, 'The Coat of Arms'. This role involves mentoring student editors and writers, overseeing print editions, and expanding digital presence.
Responsibilities
- Teach Upper School Journalism courses (Introductory and Advanced Journalism)
- Serve as faculty advisor to 'The Coat of Arms', Menlo's student newspaper
- Mentor student editors and writers for the publication
- Supervise the production of five print editions of the newspaper
- Expand the digital and multimedia presence of 'The Coat of Arms'
- Guide students through complex editorial decisions with superior judgment and strong ethical grounding
- Inspire and support students and actively participate in student life programs
- Contribute to cultivating a heterogeneous and inclusive community dedicated to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the school community
- Commit to professional growth in journalism and teaching practices
Requirements
- At least three years of teaching experience
- Background as a newspaper reporter, editor, or professional in a related media field
- Superior judgment and strong ethical grounding
- Ability to thoughtfully guide students through complex editorial decisions
- Belief in the importance of student journalism
