Upper School Journalism Teacher

About This Role

Teach Upper School Journalism to highly motivated students and advise Menlo's award-winning student newspaper, 'The Coat of Arms'. This role involves mentoring student editors and writers, overseeing print editions, and expanding digital presence.

Responsibilities

• Teach Upper School Journalism courses (Introductory and Advanced Journalism)
• Serve as faculty advisor to 'The Coat of Arms', Menlo's student newspaper
• Mentor student editors and writers for the publication
• Supervise the production of five print editions of the newspaper
• Expand the digital and multimedia presence of 'The Coat of Arms'
• Guide students through complex editorial decisions with superior judgment and strong ethical grounding
• Inspire and support students and actively participate in student life programs
• Contribute to cultivating a heterogeneous and inclusive community dedicated to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging
• Work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across the school community
• Commit to professional growth in journalism and teaching practices

Requirements

• At least three years of teaching experience
• Background as a newspaper reporter, editor, or professional in a related media field
• Superior judgment and strong ethical grounding
• Ability to thoughtfully guide students through complex editorial decisions
• Belief in the importance of student journalism
