The Treatment Specialist provides didactic sessions and education on life skills to offenders, maintaining a Therapeutic Community within the facility. This role involves guiding and assisting offenders, monitoring their behavior, and maintaining records while adhering to licensure and certification guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Provide didactic sessions according to designated curricula within the program.
- Present education and life skills classes to assist offenders with basic education on these topics.
- Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility working closely with correctional staff.
- Guide and assist offenders in complying with facility rules and regulations.
- Monitor offender behavior and report incidents, inappropriate or unusual behaviors to appropriate treatment team staff.
- Maintain offender and other records regarding services provided, including workload statistics, and compile data for reports.
- Assist with the development of an Individual Progress Summary for each offender.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED)
- Valid driver's license in the state of Texas
- Letter of registration as a Cl from the Texas Department of State of Health and Human Services or current CCJP-A certification within 180 days of employment
- Successful completion of TDCJ Approved Correctional Awareness Training (CAT)
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED). Associate's degree in psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, criminal justice, or education is preferred.
