About This Role

Join a team of track laborers to build and repair railroad tracks for Union Pacific. Ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains by conducting essential maintenance, repairs, and installations within a designated territory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and/or customers
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, operational guidelines, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements
  • Handle and transport track materials and equipment using appropriate load/unload devices
  • Perform regular maintenance on tracks, and repair, install, and remove components as needed
  • Maintain the trackbed by removing and replacing ballast, tamping ballast, and assisting with unloading ballast from cars
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently to drive spikes, tighten or loosen track bolts, and use pullers to remove spikes

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Have valid driver's license
  • Have an acceptable driving record per Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Meet medical requirements for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by FMCSA
  • Possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) of either Class A or Class B
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exhibit experience in comprehending and following instructions
  • Successfully complete an assessment in English

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions
  • Experience in a construction-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, including construction and farm machinery
  • Strong welding skills or possession of a welding certificate
  • Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, and a variety of shifts
