Technical Writer

About This Role

Remote Writers (RWJ) is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to produce operation and maintenance manuals for specialized railroad maintenance equipment. This role involves collaborating with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel to develop new documentation and update existing content.

Responsibilities

• Produce and update technical manuals for operators and maintenance personnel of specialized railroad maintenance equipment
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, developers, and manufacturing personnel to gather information for manual content
• Develop manuals including sections for setup/calibration, startup, operation, shutdown, maintenance, troubleshooting, schematics, and parts-replacement

Requirements

• Previous experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment
• Strong background in Adobe FrameMaker (unstructured)
• Working experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
• Ability to work with engineers, technicians, developers, and manufacturing personnel to gather information

Qualifications

• Bachelor's
• 1+ year of experience with Adobe FrameMaker, previous experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment

Nice to Have

• Familiarity or some knowledge of CMS, DITA, and XML
• Comfortable with technologies such as hydraulics, pneumatics, diesel power, drive-trains, clutches, servo motors, HDMI screens, lead acid and lithium battery power supplies, PLCs
