Technical Writer 3

About This Role

Support MDARD agency initiatives reviewing and updating documents and web content for ADA WCAG 2.1AA compliance, establish best practices, and train program staff on ongoing compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

• Review and update documents and web published content for ADA WCAG 2.1AA compliance
• Establish best practices for ongoing efforts to review and address non-compliance to ADA WCAG2.1 AA standards
• Train program staff on best practices for ADA WCAG2.1 AA compliance
• Lead efforts to complete needed updates for compliance
• Meet weekly with the MDARD Bureau Services Manager to track progress, remove barriers, and set priorities
• Collaborate with department’s web administrator, web team, forms analyst, and Digital Accessibility Review Team (DART) to ensure timely compliance
• Develop and maintain user and technical documentation and project process documentation
• Compose technical documents, manuals, bulletins, brochures, publications, training manuals, and special reports
• Review and edit prepared material and illustrations
• Develop and refine material for publication in journals and periodicals

Requirements

• 4+ years of general technical writer experience
• Experience producing technical content for published documentation and web content in compliance with WCAG2.1AA ADA guidelines
• Experience utilizing accessibility tools
• 1+ year mentoring and working with teams to implement documentation standards and developing training materials
• 2+ years reviewing existing documentation against standards and documenting/prioritizing identified gaps
• 1+ year working with products/projects with purposeful ADA WCAG2.1AA focus
• 1+ year experience with ADA tools associated with technical writing (e.g., Microsoft accessibility checker, Adobe accessibility checker)

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of general technical writer experience. Minimum 1 year mentoring and implementing standards. Minimum 2 years reviewing existing documentation against standards. Minimum 1 year working with ADA WCAG2.1AA focus. Minimum 1 year experience with ADA tools.
