About This Role

Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in social studies to guide and encourage students to develop their academic potential. This role focuses on maximizing student engagement and learning within a supportive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and support the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools
  • Model and instill a love of learning in students
  • Design and implement appropriate instruction of social studies content in accordance with school standards and curriculum
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning
  • Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies to meet individual student needs
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
  • Conduct tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with school rules and disciplinary systems
  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense of community
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
  • Attend department, school, district, and parent meetings
  • Participate in district and campus staff development and serve on staff committees
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments
  • Take daily attendance
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to use computer including software, database, spreadsheet, and word processing software
  • Ability to analyze data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
