This Survey Technician role involves performing all survey-related field duties, operating instruments and data collection devices for land surveying projects across the state of Georgia. It is a technical position within a field survey crew, contributing to Land Engineering department projects.
Responsibilities
- Operate field instruments and data collection devices on land surveying projects
- Accurately collect, edit, and process survey data
- Prepare necessary plots and reports, and properly store all data
- Conduct surveying work independently without daily supervision
- Ensure Land Engineering projects are completed accurately and on schedule
- Function as part of a survey team to complete various types of surveys
- Utilize CAD drafting tools and survey processing software to process and edit survey data
- Perform research required to complete survey projects, including public property records
- Provide training and development for less experienced employees
- Maintain survey equipment and tools and assess equipment needs
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of land and construction surveying concepts, techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of mathematics and measurements related to surveying
- Knowledge of the operation, setup, care and use of surveying tools & equipment, and ability to perform basic equipment calibration
- Understanding of research needs in support of field survey
- Ability to read and understand surveying and property documents and drawings
- Knowledge of applicable survey standards including the Georgia Plat Act
- Knowledge of basic drafting and CAD skills with understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Knowledge of Global Positioning System (GPS), both static and RTK, and knowledge in use of VRS networks
- Basic knowledge of the various survey coordinate datum and projection systems and their differences
- Ability to use of basic office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
- Good communication skills, team working ability, multi-tasking ability, ability to work under pressure
- Working knowledge of all applicable safety rules and environmental regulations
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of land survey experience preferred
Nice to Have
- Certified Survey Technician (CST) or Surveying Certificate Program courses
- Minimum of 1 year of land survey experience
- Experience in use of Carlson field data collection software
- Experience in use of global positioning systems (GPS)
- CAD experience (in AutoCAD or Carlson)
- CST, LSIT, RLS certification
