Supervise a multifaceted protection operation within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, encompassing visitor services, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and resource protection. Provide policy guidance and direction for program activities, managing diverse personnel and interacting with various agencies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee visitor services, law enforcement, criminal investigations, and emergency medical services operations
- Direct search and rescue initiatives and firefighting efforts (structural and wildland)
- Manage aviation operations and wilderness programs
- Conduct resource monitoring and protection activities
- Provide policy guidance for visitor and resource protection programs
- Interact with local, state, federal, and tribal government representatives
- Manage Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations for all personnel (seasonal, temporary, permanent, VIP)
- Acquire and maintain skills for operating ambulances, high-performance patrol boats, and 4x4 vehicles
- Focus on water activities during warmer months and water/backcountry operations during shoulder seasons
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
- Subject to pre-employment background investigation, physical, and drug testing
- Must possess a Type I or higher Law Enforcement Commission (or obtain by 02/27/2026)
- Must identify a financial institution for direct deposit within 30 days of entrance on duty
- Required to carry and maintain proficiency with a firearm
- Free of domestic violence convictions
- Determined physically fit and pass a medical examination (including PEB) prior to appointment
- Possess substantial service in a primary law enforcement position (for secondary retirement provisions)
- NREMT- Basic certification (or higher) by 02/27/2026
- At least 21 years old
Qualifications
- Successful completion of at least three full years of graduate level study leading to a Doctorate, Ph.D., or equivalent degree at an accredited college or university in directly related fields OR a combination of education and experience.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in law enforcement, visitor protection, or program management related to natural/cultural resources.
