This temporary Seasonal Park Ranger role engages visitors with the park's natural and cultural resources, promotes visitor safety, and delivers educational programs. It requires a deep understanding of the park's history and ability to present information effectively.
Responsibilities
- Develop interpretive programs and conduct basic research using records and interviews
- Present onsite programs to diverse audiences, including guided walks and presentations
- Staff visitor center information desks, serving as a primary contact for visitors
- Greet visitors and provide information on local and regional attractions
- Answer telephones and handle area information requests
- Research, prepare, and present original interpretive programs, including digital illustrated programs and public address commentaries
- Assist supervisors with scheduling and training co-workers and volunteers
- Handle visitor information requests, sell publications, and complete assigned projects
- Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and guidance to team members
- Sell Park Passes and collect/account for money (at specific locations)
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- At least 18 years old
- Valid U.S. driver's license (for vehicle operation)
- Ability to wear a uniform and comply with standards
- Ability to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Ability to travel overnight away from home up to several nights per month (for certain duty stations)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport and passport card (for Skagway positions)
- Physical and mental ability to safely climb rope ladders 15 feet in height during vessel transfers (for Bartlett Cove positions)
Qualifications
- Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study, or 24 semester hours of coursework in a related field
- At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 (for GS-05) or GS-05 (for GS-07) in the Federal service, or education, or a combination.
