Summer Activity Leader

About This Role

Lead and coordinate recreational summer programs for Macon-Bibb County residents, focusing on teaching activities and guiding campers in personal growth and daily living skills.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers aligned with the mission and outcomes
• Lead the teaching of activities and actively participate in all assigned program areas
• Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers within their groups
• Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
• Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior
• Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members
• Communicate and work effectively with diverse age and skill levels, providing necessary instruction to campers and staff
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior-management techniques
• Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities through visual and auditory abilities
• Respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and assist campers in emergencies (fire, evacuation, illness, injury)
• Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older
• High school graduate or equivalent GED
• 1+ year of successful working experience in parks/recreational activities
• Creative and able to use critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ability to interact with all age levels
• Willingness to work indoors and outdoors
• Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate the summer camp curriculum
• Understanding of the developmental needs of youth
• Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in program areas designated camp program areas

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent GED
• 1+ year of successful working experience in parks/recreational activities
