The State Income Tax Analyst will prepare and review state income and franchise tax returns, manage estimated tax payments, and assist with income tax audits. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate state filings and supporting the company's financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review state income and franchise tax returns, including supporting workpapers and disclosures
- Calculate and analyze apportionment factors across multiple jurisdictions to ensure accurate state filings
- Prepare and monitor state estimated tax payments and extensions in accordance with jurisdictional requirements
- Assist with state income tax audits, notices, and other tax controversies, including drafting responses and compiling supporting documentation
- Contribute to the preparation and review of the state portion of the income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740
- Collaborate with outside tax advisors on complex state tax issues, planning opportunities, and compliance matters
- Coordinate with internal accounting, finance, and legal teams to gather data, review transactions, and ensure consistent tax treatment
- Research and analyze state tax laws and legislative changes to assess impact on the company’s tax position
- Maintain accurate records of tax filings, correspondence, and audit activity for internal tracking and documentation purposes
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the state income tax function
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field
- 1 to 3 years of corporate state income and franchise tax experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Strong understanding of state income/franchise tax concepts
- Experience preparing and reviewing multistate corporate income tax returns and supporting documentation
- Familiarity with tax research tools
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field
- 1 to 3 years of corporate state income and franchise tax experience, preferably in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm
Nice to Have
- Master’s in Taxation
- Experience with CORPTax tax compliance software
