Specialty Team Member (Beer, Wine, Cheese & Chocolate)

About This Role

Support the Specialty team by receiving and preparing products, maintaining displays, and actively selling beer, wine, cheese, and chocolate. Ensure excellent customer service and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prepare product for the Specialty department
• Maintain displays and ensure freshness and appeal by keeping cases and shelves clean and well-stocked
• Engage in proactive selling and provide excellent customer service
• Monitor spoilage and supply waste to minimize impact on department expenses
• Assist with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean, and appealing
• Ensure temperature, sanitation, and sweep logs are completed
• Maximize sales potential through proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
• Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health, sanitation, and safe work practices
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing
• Immediately report safety hazards and violations

Requirements

• Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in department
• Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness
• Ability to sell proactively
• Working understanding of Specialty department and team and WFM quality goals
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
• Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards
• Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills
• Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
• Understanding of and compliance with WFM quality goals

Qualifications

• No prior retail experience required

Nice to Have

• TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures by Servers of Alcohol) course completion (if serving alcohol)
