Social Studies Teacher

About This Role

Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences is seeking a dedicated Middle School Social Studies Teacher to foster a positive, inclusive learning environment and promote academic and personal development in elementary school students.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum, Common Core, and state standards
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, respectful behavior, and a sense of community among students
• Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring each student's unique needs are met
• Regularly assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments
• Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians
• Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the school's positive and collaborative culture
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians through regular updates, conferences, and involvement in school events
• Stay informed about current educational trends, participate in professional development opportunities, and continuously seek ways to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
• Actively participate in the Teaching and Learning Cycle which requires analyzing data, completing action plans, delivering re-teach lessons and reflecting on the instructional learning cycle
• Participate in the development of and adhere to all specialized student plans i.e. Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), 504, Behavior Plans, etc.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with Endorsement for desired grade level (ZL or ZD endorsement) and/or content area (CC, CX, RX)
• Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Previous experience teaching elementary school students.
