The Small Boat Mechanic will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, service, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of marine inboard, outboard, and diesel engines for naval small boats and test craft at Naval Station Norfolk. This role ensures the performance and fleet readiness of combatant craft.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft
- Check functionality of newly installed equipment and evaluate system performance while underway
- Install, service, repair, and test marine inboard and outboard engines
- Perform all work safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices
- Serve as chief engineer when underway onboard Navy small craft
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years of maritime engine repair experience
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and follow technical directives
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Current Driver's License, insurable for company vehicles
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years of maritime engine repair experience.
Nice to Have
- U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training
- Familiarity with Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude, and/or other common industry outboard/outdrive motors
- OEM Certifications
- Familiarity with MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, or Steyr Diesel Engines
- CDL License with a clean driving record
- Familiarity with operating, maintaining, and repairing small craft trailers, transporters, and prime movers
