About This Role

Practice high-quality veterinary medicine and surgery for shelter animals, enhancing their health and well-being. This role supports the lifesaving mission of the largest no-kill municipal shelter in Utah by providing diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services to all shelter animals
  • Monitor animal health and provide patient education
  • Assist with administrative work, including scheduling for veterinary staff
  • Perform required number of canine and feline sterilizations per day
  • Adhere to herd health treatments and protocols that are cost and time efficient
  • Maintain complete surgical, complication, mortality, and controlled drug logs and individual patient medical records
  • Complete wellness and surgical procedures in a competent, safe, and efficient manner
  • Provide education and consults with clients including fosters, adopters, owners, rescuers and staff
  • Utilize knowledge of population management to recommend non-responsive candidates for euthanasia
  • Research, suggest, and maintain best practices for high quality shelter medicine and high volume spay/neuter clinics
  • Assist in the development and implementation of improved or new diagnostic, treatment, and surgery protocols
  • Provide on-call services on a rotating basis to respond to emergencies

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid license to practice as a Veterinarian in the State of Utah
  • Controlled Substance License (at time of hire or within 60 days)
  • Certification to issue State Health Exams (at time of hire or within 30 days)
  • Ability to pass a mandatory drug test and background check
