This role involves supporting a major application modernization initiative for a public-sector client, transforming a legacy Perl/MySQL system into a modern, cloud-based application using Java, React, MariaDB, and AWS.
Responsibilities
- Design and define system architecture in collaboration with the OFCC Development Lead
- Lead and mentor development teams, providing technical direction and best practices
- Drive modernization efforts from legacy platforms to modern Java and cloud technologies
- Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Lead code reviews and ensure high code quality and architectural standards
- Troubleshoot complex issues and optimize system performance and scalability
- Create and maintain architecture and technical documentation
- Use AI-enabled tools to support application development and testing
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in IT and enterprise application development
- Strong experience architecting and designing Java applications on AWS
- Proven background in application modernization projects
- Experience supporting large, mission-critical systems, ideally in the public sector
- Ability to communicate clearly on project status, features, and backlog
- Familiarity with React, MariaDB, and cloud-native design principles
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
