This Senior Underwriter role focuses on managing a portfolio of hard-to-place excess liability risks, involving individual account underwriting, pricing, and contract negotiation. The position is responsible for new business development and maintaining profitability.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a solid flow of new business opportunities, identifying growth within new and existing production sources.
- Develop risk pricing by analyzing exposures, claims experience, utilizing pricing tools and worksheets, and comparing to similar risks.
- Consistently achieve budgeted financial results (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, new business, premium collection, and expense management).
- Identify and take corrective action or collaborate with appropriate areas within the organization based on individual risk characteristics.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.
- Remain current on legal and regulatory changes and claim development to contribute to unit product development and portfolio decisions.
- Provide responsive service to brokers by delivering timely and accurate quotes and endorsements.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of E&S (excess & surplus lines) experience writing medium to high hazard excess liability insurance.
- Knowledge of ISO coverage forms and industry standard company forms.
- Knowledge of commercial Excess and Surplus lines risk, classification, pricing and coverage options.
- Able to understand and execute strategic priorities.
- Strong knowledge of the E & S external market and demonstrated marketing and business development experience within the wholesale distribution channel.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree strongly preferred, or equivalent in experience
- Minimum of 7 years of Liability underwriting experience preferred; high-hazard, complex risks, or E&S underwriting experience highly desired.
